Collected from around 150 smallholder families in the immediate area (average holding of 0.5 hectares), ripe cherry is received, graded and sorted several times before being selected for this natural lot. Placed onto raised drying beds for 35-45 days, the cherries ferment, imparting the wonderfully tropical flavours we look for in this type of coffee. The coffee is turned by hand throughout the day to ensure an even fermentation, before being collected and sent to the dry mill for hulling and final processing.

Simply one of the stand out coffees of 2016 for us - this natural from the Kilimbi washing station, which sits on the shores of Lake Kivu, is the first licensed natural to come out of Rwanda. Normally there are strict rules about processing, so this is a real treat and we’re looking forward to seeing more naturals in the years to come!
